GENDER INEQUALITY INDEX: CALCULATING ANALYSIS

Abstract:
 Gender inequality remains a persistent issue worldwide. In order to measure and track progress towards gender equality, the Inequality Index (GII) was introduced by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 2010. The GII is composite index that measures gender-based inequalities three dimensions: reproductive health, empowerment, labor market participation. This paper provides an overview of methodology used calculate GII, including selection indicators weighting system. We also discuss strengths limitations as inequality, highlight areas for future research.
